This blog is more for me and my journaling purpose, but I also need the advice of you moms out there...since a lot of times moms know more than the doctors do!
Ever since Taylor has been born she has been very gassy and we thought she had reflux. I have given her gas-x just about every night before bed. Well, she caught a cold a couple of days ago, and then last night happened. She threw up once and was just SCREAMING in pain. I knew it was her stomach because she would cringe in pain. I literally had to bounce her and keep her moving the ENTIRE night. If I stopped she started screaming. AND I had to keep her vertical...as soon as I laid her down she would scream. So, needless to say I got zero sleep. After it didn't get better in the morning I decided to take her to the doctor.
Well, the doctor wasn't helpful and just said, if she doesn't have a fever, and she is eating and pooping then I see no red flags and she is probably just cranky...WHAT!? I was so upset. I said watch this...I laid down happy Taylor and she immediately started screaming. I said, "You don't see a problem with that!?" He went to get a "second opinion" and then prescribed be anti acid meds for her and said, "If this doesn't help come back"...thanks a lot! I told him that I was afraid she had reflux or serious stomach problems. I heard that they don't have to vomit all the time to have reflux...
SO, here is night #2 and she is down for bed (meaning she will sleep for 45 minutes and then scream and I will have to settle her back down-the nightly routine). We shall see how this goes. Taylor has never slept longer than 2 hours at a time and is always restless...I think it's because of her stomach.
Anyone out there have experience with this or with reflux?

Wow Jamie, I am so sorry the Dr. visit was so unhelpful. Hopefully someone will know more than I do. Poor thing. Taylor and YOU! Let us know how tonight goes.
uhegrhewhh... how woud you spell that uhhh with a bit of grr and some aww? sorry you're having to deal with all that. it's so tough to deal with sick kids, and knowing they just feel awful. be diligent in giving her the meds, hope that it helps, and when it doesn't you need to be FIRM with want you want. get more than a second opinion, a third. tell them what you want. or go to web md, and bring up all those symptoms and do your research. you have the innate ability to know when something is off or wrong. go with it!!! on a lighter note...we need to play!!!
darren's sister marianne has a daughter (my niece) who had reflux and had to get the surgery for it 3 times! i can give you her email if you want it. i remember when natalie was a baby and marianne had to hold her all night long, too.
i really don't know much more than that - natalie threw up a lot, but she didn't throw up every time she refluxed. and i think the way they throw up means something too? like if its "fauceting" (pouring out) or if its projectile? i don't know.
of course the surgery would be the last step, there are medications and stuff.
have you ever asked about allergies? maybe it's an allergy to milk?
I don't know much about it either but my sister has been dealing with reflux with my neice, Leia. She is actually having surgery also. The opening between her stomach and esophages(sp?) doesn't always close so everything comes back up. She also wakes up screaming from stomach pain. I'll find out what exactly it's called. Hopefully, Taylor won't need surgery, and this medication will help. Hope you two have a better night.
Oh, I wish I could help. I just don't know anything about it!
Jamie, oh that is no fun! Ruby had reflux when she was a newborn. She didn't throw up, but she spit up like crazy! She was fussy and acted like her tummy hurt while she was drinking her bottle and when she laid down. Anyway, her pediatrician prescribed her some reflux medication(can't remember what it is called , but she took it twice a day and liked the way it tasted) she took it for several months, but it worked like a charm until she grew out of it. It made a huge difference in the way she felt and acted. You can also try elevating one end of her crib with a phonebook or something. Hopefully that is all you will have to worry about for your sweet girl! Let me know if you have other questions. Good luck!
I agree with a previous poster about checking out food allergies. Also, you might want to take her in to see a chiropractor. Maybe something is out of whack and hurting her? Sure hope you two get some sleep!!!
Jamie... lot's of good advice, I agree with everyone. Follow your maternal instincts. The chiropracter would be great or if the meds don't work maybe ask about getting an upper GI done....that basically check her physiologically to be sure everything is working correctly or you can have a full GI done with contrast which will basically cover her entire GI system from start to finish. Call me if you need anything. love you!
