Merry Christmas!

Christmas was a success this year! Thanks to Katelyn, it was a very Merry Christmas for me. It was so fun to stay up late on Christmas Eve building things for her and playing Santa. Christmas morning started bright and early at 6am! Katelyn tore through her presents and thought that EVERY present under the tree was hers! We had a hard time explaining that everyone got presents on Christmas! Then later in the afternoon family came over and there were more presents, but they weren't for Katelyn. She had a few meltdowns, but all in all she did great. It was so fun to watch her eyes light up as she opened them. Taylor was sick with a cold and was up all night, so her and I were VERY tired and she didn't feel well. Here are a few pics...I didn't take very many because I was manning the video camera. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas...another one down!
Here is the tree all set up and ready to go!

Of course Katelyn's favorite presents were the two from Grandma and Grandpa! She got a trampoline that she desperately needs to release pent up energy-she jumps on it all day long! And then she got a grocery stand that she LOVES! It has a working convayer (sp?) belt and she loves to pretend play with the money. She was spoiled this year!

My Family

We took family pictures today FINALLY, and here is the result! It turned out really good, except Katelyn isn't looking at the camera. But, hey everyone is happy and no children are crying! I would say we did pretty well! I have the best family in the world!

Come Rain or Shine!

On Thursday we went to Disneyland...AGAIN! It was a lot of fun, but we still haven't picked a day where it isn't really crowded. The weather forecast said scattered showers, but it hardly rained and was a wonderful day. I lost my cell phone and that was not fun, but that's ok...we got to see a parade this time and the kids loved it! Only 3 more days until Christmas and I think I am more excited than Katelyn because I can't wait to give her her presents!!!

My night out

Last night I went out without BOTH of the girls for 3 hours!!! WAHOO!! I am a Celine fan, and went to see her Vegas show on the big screen in Burbank and it was great! I wish I could have seen her live, but her show has come to an end. Fortunately, Marci and I ARE seeing her live next December for her tour! Something to look forward to! I am just grateful that I was able to get out of the house...Thank you mom!
Christmas is right around the corner and I think I am about ready. I can't wait for Christmas morning this year, because Katelyn gets the whole Santa thing. The other day when we were driving in the car Katelyn smiled a huge grin and said, "Mama, Santa's coming!" It was so cute! I have all her presents wrapped and ready to go.
The other day we took some more cute pics of the girls and here's one of them!

Belly Laugh

So tonight I got Taylor to do the biggest laugh-I had to do this fake laugh and it cracked her up! (sorry you have to hear my lame laugh, but hers is adorable!)

I already started Taylor on cereal this week! She was so intrigued with me eating, so I thought I would give it a try and she loved it! No learning curve for her-she gobbled it ALL up the first try!

Here are the girls with Santa at our ward Christmas party...St Nick wasn't so jolly and Katelyn was a little nervous, but she sat on his lap-Yea!

Gingerbread Houses

For playgroup on Thursday we made gingerbread houses with graham crackers. It was a success even though the houses kept falling down! The kids just enjoyed decorating the crackers and eating the candy! Katelyn just wanted to put icing on every cracker and everything!

Saturday, December 8, 2007

I was watching Jordan today and had to take a picture of the three of them...I can just tell they are going to cause trouble together when they get older! And here is Katelyn in her red peacoat I bought her last year for $10! I am so glad it fits her this winter! She is obsessed with hats lately and when I put on her coat she immediately insisted that she wore a hat with it!
Today my brother and his wife brought home baby Kara Grace...what an amazing experience it was to meet her. Babies are just the pure definition of LOVE...straight from heaven. So, needless to say, today was a good day!

Oprah

As most of you know, I love Oprah! And the last couple of shows that I have watched have really touched me and caused me to reflect a lot. I usually just post about the girls and what's going on with them, but I wanted to record some of my feelings (more for my own records). There have been two books on her shows- One More Day and Eat, Pray Love. I have bought both of them and look forward to reading them. I am becoming quite the bookworm and can't get enough of these "life lesson" books. I have been spending a lot of time reflecting, asking myself what is important and what is the real meaning of life, and how can I live a better life. I want to love more, forgive more, be a better mother and a better person. I am surrounded by such wonderful people and examples and I am so grateful for that. Instead of focusing on my hardships and trials, I am choosing to focus on love and the things that I have been blessed with. I am learning that all I want is to love and be loved and to spend time with my family. I will have to let you know how these books are-there are always lessons to be learned.

Love

Today has been a good day. I have just felt an overwhelming amount of love today. One of those days where I can't believe how much I love my girls and wonderful they are to me. I have prayed for love and the Lord has blessed me with so much from my two girls! I am blessed. Every moment today just seemed to stand still in time for me and I didn't want to forget any of it.

Speaking of moments...Katelyn had a BIG one today! I can't tell you how many times I have put Katelyn on the toilet and she just sits there and then says "All done!" because she just liked to wipe...but she never went to the bathroom! Well, tonight before bath she said, "Potty in the toilet" I said ok, and put her on it again. She insisted that I close the door and give her privacy and then she said with a loud voice, "I did it! Mama I did it!" I opened the door and sure enough she went pee!!! Wahoo! I had to take a picture of how excited her little face was. So maybe now I will do the all day training thing and see how it goes. Yea Katelyn!!!

I am also overwhelmed with love for my brother and sister in law. They have FINALLY become parents after such a long wait and I couldn't be happier for them. They have welcomed Kara Grace to their family and I am so grateful to have her in our family. She was born on Friday and I get to meet her in a week. What a miracle she is...miracles happen every day, and I am grateful for that!

Video of Taylor!

I am SO excited that I figured out how to put a little video on my blog! I am even more excited that out of state family and friends get to see and hear Taylor laugh! It's not the best video, but hopefully it will bring a smile to your face! I am especially thinking of Gay (Grandma Olsen) who has never heard Taylor laugh-Gay this is for you!

Two Sickos

Both of the girls have had a cold the past two days, and so it has been fun:) Last night was the worst...It was just me and the two girls home and Katelyn kept waking up. I finally brought to bed with me and Taylor, hoping she would sleep. This was one of those nights I wanted Katelyn to sleep in my bed...but Katelyn has NEVER slept in my bed for a minute-she just won't. Anyway, after fighting with her for two hours, I finally put her back in her bed at 5am and she finally went back to sleep for two hours. Today we stayed home from church and had a low key day.
On a more fun note...I swear Katelyn turned into a little girl over night! She isn't my baby anymore! She is talking like crazy and I can actually reason with her now! It's magical! For example I talked her into taking medicine!!! She has NEVER taken medicine and always would spit it out. Well, I told her she could have a cookie after her meds and she gulped it right down-Ah, it's the small things in life!

When I put Katelyn to bed I lay Taylor down next to her for storytime. Katelyn LOVES to have Taylor next to her and Taylor LOVES Katelyn. Taylor rolls on her side facing Katelyn and just nuzzles her face next to Katelyn's and coos at her. It's adorable! And then when I read the stories Taylor just talks right along with me and smiles at me-she is a lovebug! Storytime has to be one of my favorite times of the day!

Random thoughts

I wasn't going to do Christmas cards this year, but my dad took this picture and I just had to make cards out of them! I can't believe we got such a good smile from Taylor! When my dad was done taking pictures Katelyn threw her arms open and said "All Done!"...too bad she was holding Taylor and Taylor fell over to the side...it wasn't a bad fall. I am into buying them matching outfits lately and couldn't resist these PJ's!
Speaking of matching outfits- Aunt Jody and Annalise came to visit us from Riverside the other day and it was so good to see them! Then they spoiled the girls and bought them matching ADORABLE outfits from Pumpkin Patch! I will post a pic soon after I take one. Thank you Aunt Jody and Annalise! You guys are too sweet to us!
Another random cute Katelyn moment...I bought Katelyn Minnie Mouse ears at Disneyland and she LOVES to wear them. Now when she watches the Mickey Mouse Club in the morning she insists that she wear them and sits there and says, "Mickey's Ears (while pointing at the TV), Katelyn's ears (while pointing at herself)!" She is so excited to have some Mickey ears!

Thanksgiving Fun!

We headed to Disneyland for Thanksgiving...and man was it crowded! I guess everyone thought that no one would be there, and so everyone went! We still had a blast regardless! Taking a 2 year old and a 3 month old was no easy task, but thankfully I had the help of my family! Katelyn was in heaven the whole day! It is so cute that she knows what "Disneyland" is...when she woke up I said we were going to Disneyland and she freaked out! She started talking a hundred miles a minute and said, "Dumbo! Horsey (the carousel)! Mickey Mouse! WoodyBuzz!"...and the list goes on! We arrived at 9am and stayed until 8:30pm, and Katelyn did NOT take a nap! She crashed on the way home though. It was great to spend time with family and to see family from out of town.

And to finish my gratitude marathon...

V: Veronica-my life long friend W: Watermelon, Water (it can entertain Katelyn for hours!) X: Um, I don't know Y: Yummy desserts...especially Strawberry Shortcake! Z: Zoo-it entertains my daughter!

Oh Christmas Tree

We brought out the Christmas decorations today and it was so much fun! This year Katelyn could help me decorate the tree, and she loved it! Of course all of the balls were in a line at her eye level, but she had so much fun hanging them. And then Katelyn had to take them all off of the tree when she was done, because she can stand things to be in order! Then my mom and I had the tree all done, and Katelyn decided it was time to take down stuff again! I think she has finally figured out that the stuff stays on the tree!

We are looking forward to Thanksgiving...we are going to Disneyland! No traditional turkey dinner for us! I am very excited to go there with my family and extended family from Utah.

A few more things to be thankful for:
T: Today-because it was a little bit better than yesterday
U: Unbelievable parents
I am WAY behind on my gratitude list, and Thanksgiving is two days away! Since I Am feeling very grateful this morning, I thought I would get caught up...

N: New clothes and shoes (nothing like wearing a new outfit!), Nights when Katelyn sleeps through the night
O: Outdoors, Office (the show), Open Arms
P: People who care about me, Pictures of my kids, Pickles, PRAYER
Q: Okay, NOTHING begins with Q! (Amber thought of a good one-Quiet! I never hear that sound in my home!)

Taylor's Blessing

Yesterday Taylor was blessed at my parent's home. What a wonderful evening, and wonderful idea! I really like having the blessing at home-it's more personal and warm and then the family stays afterwards and visits and eats! Julio blessed Taylor and did an amazing job! Taylor of course looked gorgeous and didn't make a peep during the blessing:) It was a blessing to feel the Spirit so strongly. Thank you to my family and close friends who were there to share this very special moment with my family. I love you all and your support means more than you will ever know!

Taylor's Checkup

Today Taylor had her Dr appt. and also had her first shots :( She was such a happy girl the entire appt. and was laughing the entire time...and then we shot her...3 times! It was horrible! I have never heard her (or Katelyn) scream that bad! It took her an hour to stop crying, and even after she would calm down she would scream out every once in a while like she was re-living it. Katelyn wasn't nearly as bad when she got her shots...
Anyways, Taylor and I survived and she is doing well. She is very healthy and here are her stats:
Height: 26 in
Weight: 13 lbs
She is a lot smaller than Katelyn (Katelyn weighed 14lbs at 2 months and Taylor weighs 13 lbs at 3 months!) and is in the 77 percentile.
And to continue my gratitude list:
J: Jeans that I can fit into again! Jingle Bells (when Katelyn sings it)
K: Kind friends, Kids, Kit Kats, Kisses
L: Laughter, Love
M: Marci (the best sister in the world!)

My future model...

I put Katelyn in this outfit and just had to take a picture! She loves her new boots and hat and had no problem posing for the pictures! She sure is a sweetheart when she wants to be and gives so many hugs and kisses to everyone. Her favorite thing is Eskimo kisses, and she makes sure that she doesn't leave anyone out and gives them to everyone in the room.

And thanks to my mother we have found two new techniques to managing her tantrums...
If she throws herself on the floor and refuses to move or go anywhere, my mom will say "Let's start counting!" And for some reason Katelyn will jump up and take very slow steps while my mom counts her steps until Katelyn has reached the desired destination...it's amazing! And Katelyn has this problem of screaming REALLY loud when she is frustrated, and my mom said to her one day, "Oh no! You let the scream out! Hurry and put it back in your mouth, we don't want to let the scream out!" Katelyn then hurried and pretended to put it back in her mouth and said "I put it back!" Now, whenever she screams I say, "Put it back." and she will put it back and say, "Sorry Mama, I put it back." It is so sweet! THANK HEAVEN for my mother!!!!!

Knotts Berry Farm!

Yesterday I took the girls to Knotts Berry Farm with Marci, Julio and Jordan. I didn't even remember the park, so I didn't know what to expect. It was awesome! This is the perfect place for 2-3 year olds! They had so many rides at Camp Snoopy and
Katelyn loved all of them!

This car ride was her favorite and it was such an awesome experience to just watch her enjoy it. Around every turn the car would go really fast and Katelyn would just laugh from the gut! Children really know how to experience joy, and they hold nothing back...we can learn a lot from them.

Finally, some pictures!

Ah, I finally have a computer that I can post pics with again...life is good.

Here are a few random pics..

Katelyn and Taylor-both wearing yellow footed PJs, watching Toy Story. Taylor is a real trooper and will let Katelyn "hold" her (it's more like Taylor falling off of Katelyn's lap), and doesn't mind Katelyn getting in her face all of the time. I hope they always get along. Katelyn always give Taylor kisses and says "Taylor is SO cute!"

Taylor giving us a classic smile

Although we are blessing Taylor next week, I wanted to hurry and take pictures before she didn't fit into the dress anymore! Luckily the dress fit great! Katelyn wore it when she was only 6 weeks old! Grandma Olsen made this breathtaking dress and I am so glad I get to use it twice! Thank you Gay!!!

I am grateful for:

H: A Happy baby! A Heavenly Father who has given me strength, Homemade cookies!
I: Ice Cream, even though I can't have it!

Reflections

Please forgive me for not having pictures or better posts...my camera is packed and I have been very busy lately. I had no idea how many people out of state read my blog until I stopped writing and you all started calling! Thanks for caring about me!
Since this is my online journal, and I haven't been writing in my regular one I wanted to record some of the cute and random things about my children...

Katelyn for some reason has decided that utensils are not a necessity and will not use them...for ANYTHING! She eats everything with her hands and it is so frustrating! She will now finally sit down and watch a movie, as long as it is Finding Nemo or Toy Story (or as she would call it "WoodyBuzz!") She sings songs non-stop and walks around the house singing Jungle Bells or saying "Luke, I am Your Father" (thanks to her uncle Byron). She cracks me up and is the reason I smile everyday.

Taylor is now laughing! Oh, what a beautiful sound! There is nothing better! She will smile and coo and talk to me forever. She likes to talk to herself in the mirror and has found her hands! We are blessing her next weekend and I have taken pictures of her in her blessing dress and need to post them.
My girls have been my saving grace and are the reason I am able to smile and keep moving forward. I am so grateful to my Heavenly Father for blessing me with them. And on that note, here are two more things I am grateful for:

F: Friends and Family who have been so amazing to me!
G: Girls (my two girls), and the best Grandparents my children could ask for!

More Gratitude

To continue my list of things I am grateful for:

D: My dad who has shown so much commitment to his family over the years. I am learning that a man who is commited to his wife and kids is a huge blessing and I am grateful for my dad and what he has done for his family
E: Eskimo kisses from Katelyn, Ear to Ear grins from Taylor

I am grateful for...

Pay It Forward
What are you Grateful For?
This idea came from my friend Amber, and I am paying it forward, too. This is what to do--each day of this month make a list of your thankful things that start with each letter of the alphabet. It's a great dinnertime activity with your kiddos. So these are mine:
A: Amazing friends and family
B: Beautiful daughters
C: Chocolate, Car, Camera

Here's the Pay It Forward Idea:I will send a handmade gift to the first three (3) people who leave a comment on my blog requesting to join this PIF exchange. You may not receive it tomorrow or next week, but you will receive it within 365 days! The only thing you have to do in return is pay it forward by making the same promise on your blog. (so, you must have a blog to participate.) I can't wait to see who I will be giving to. To join, just cut and paste this on your blog and comment away. So get posting.

Let's compare...

This morning I was changing the girls diapers side by side and just had to take a picture of them together in their diapers. Man, what a difference!

Halloween Party

Last night was the ward Halloween party and it was fun to get Katelyn dressed up! Katelyn was a little 50's girl and I put a tutu on Taylor and called it good.

Katelyn caught on to the idea of trunk or treating really fast and was eager to run to the next car, hold out her bucket and say "Trick or Treat!" Everytime someone would put candy in her bucket her eyes would light up and she said "Thank You!"
She ate 3 cupcakes, and no dinner...talk about a wild child after that!

Disneyland!

I took the girls to Disneyland with my mom, Marci, Julio and Jordan. Although it was VERY windy and smoky from all of the fires, we still had a blast! This is Katelyn's fourth time going and she is finally at an age where she thoroughly loves it! She loved ALL of the rides and was in heaven when she saw the characters and got to take a picture with them. She could spot out a character and call them by name, it was really cute. She had woken up at 5am that morning at didn't have a nap, so she must have been running on adrenaline! She was a happy ball of energy all day long! And Taylor was a dream-just slept all day long. But I paid for it that night when I couldn't get her to sleep until 11pm.

An update

I saw this "Little Devil" shirt at Target and just had to get it for Katelyn! And I can't believe Taylor is already 2 months old! She sure is a good baby-thank goodness! Since I stopped eating dairy (it has been really hard-EVERYTHING has dairy!), she hardly gets gas. I think she looks more like me-she looks a lot like my baby pictures. Katelyn just adores Taylor and is always kissing her, hugging her, or holding her hand. In the past 2 weeks Katelyn's vocabulary has exploded! And she understands me very well...I can finally talk to her in normal, full length sentences and she completely understands-it's great!

Our Haunted House

This morning we made a cookie haunted house. Katelyn enjoyed eating the candy and icing more than making the house (that's why her face is black), so I did most of it. But she loved putting the little candy balls on the house. It was a fun Halloween activity to take up some time this morning.

On a side note: Is it normal for toddlers to talk ALL day long!? I swear, the only time Katelyn is not talking or singing is when she is sleeping. It is cute and sweet most of the time...but I swear she is a broken record and repeats things several times. She is SUPER hyper as well. People probably assume that I feed her sugar for all three meals, but I actually avoid sugar because she doesn't need it! Anyways, just wondering if this is just my lovely daughter, or if it's normal.

Our children are our greatest teachers

Today there was a moment of silence in the car (imagine that!), and then Katelyn started quietly singing...
"Whenever I hear the song of a bird, or look at the blue blue sky
Whenever I feel the rain on my face, or the wind as it rushes by.
Whenever I touch a velvet rose, I walk by a lilac tree
I'm glad that I live in this beautiful world, Heavenly Father created for me."
I couldn't help but cry as I listened to her angelic voice sing this beautiful song.
Thank you Katelyn for reminding me that we are truly blessed and that it is the simple things in life that matter. Lately, it has become so clear to me that the only things that are important and bring true happiness are our families and children.

Is it possible to shop in peace?

So, this morning I went to Wal-Mart for the first time with both kids...I know I know, you pros out there with several children are laughing at me, but for me this was a HUGE accomplishment. I have been going to the grocery store with Greg, my mom or my sister since Taylor was born because Katelyn is so hard to shop with. Anyways, this morning I get my self pumped up, psyched and ready to go. I think we are doing really well, until I try to get the girls in the car (Yeah, I only made it down the stairs!) Katelyn throws herself on the garage floor and refuses to get in her car seat, and Taylor starts screaming in her carrier. I force Katelyn into her seat, buckle her in and put Taylor in and keep telling myself that Wal-Mart is just right around the corner. The entire drive, both girls were screaming at the top of their lungs. Once I had Taylor strapped to me in her carrier and Katelyn on one of those rides in the front of the store, there was finally peace. I decided this was now going to be a very quick trip and grabbed the most important items on my list and headed out of there before there was another blow out. All I have to say is, how did my mom do this with FIVE!?

Since the last sticker chart was so successful, I decided to keep it going! I am now giving Katelyn stickers for going potty. She has been terrified of the toilet since Greg held her down on the the toilet and told her to go "poo-poo" after she said she needed to go. Greg was trying to get her all excited about it, but she was not happy about it at all. I am not trying to force her to go, she will let me know when she is ready. But I ask her everyday if she wants to go on the toilet and everyday she says no. So, maybe now that I am rewarding her, maybe she will warm up to the idea.

Katelyn-The Energizer Bunny

Our day started at 5am AGAIN! We had her in bed at 7:20 tonight, and it is now 8pm and she is desperately trying to open the door! Our little Katelyn is just anti-sleep...there's nothing we can do about it. I feel like I have tried everything and just need to come to grips with the fact that she will never be that child who sleeps from 7pm to 8am. Oh well, she was really good today and we had a great day! Just stayed at home in the morning and went grocery shopping after her nap. Today Katelyn was obsessed with giving Taylor "hugs", which meant she wanted to hold Taylor on her lap "all by herself". This was really cute the first ten times, and then I was just scared as I watched Taylor slide off Katelyn's lap and her head hung down to the side...then Taylor of course started crying and I would go to rescue her and Katelyn would get upset and say "by myself!" She sure does love to squeeze and kiss Taylor to death- Taylor is going to have to be a tough girl!

Counting my blessings...

This morning was the third morning that Katelyn decided to start her day at 5am! If she wakes up at 2am, we can get her back to sleep, but 5am-forget it! She is up! So, we decided to try to put her to bed earlier and see if what the books say about "if they get more sleep, they sleep more" theory works. She was in bed at 7:30 and at 8:30 she turned on the light in her room and started playing. I went in there and the room stunk really bad because she pooped in her diaper. So, I changed her and got her situated in her bed and she started throwing a fit. I sat down next to her bed to calm her down (I know, I know, I should have just let her SCREAM it out, but I was so tired and just wanted peace). It is now 9, and she is finally asleep-so much for the early to bed idea. Hopefully she will sleep longer than 5am tonight!

BUT, my mother reminded me today that I need to count my blessings and she is right! I am so blessed and I need to remember that when I am at my wits end. When I sat next to Katelyn tonight she grabbed my hand and just laid there and held it. It was such a sweet moment. I love my daughters so much and am so lucky to have them and to be a mother. When Katelyn is happy, she is the happiest girl in the world and is a ray of sunshine! I love to listen to her sing and talk to herself.

We went to Lombardi today and it was so fun to watch Katelyn just explore the outdoors (her favorite thing to do) and to chase the goats and sheep and giggle. I don't know what I would do without my precious girls and I am so grateful for them.

Oh how I love the crock pot!

So after a hard Friday, I was looking forward to having Greg's help over the weekend. There was also a part of me that wanted Greg to see just how hard Katelyn has been...but of course she was really good today! Isn't that how it always works! I said, "I swear I am not crazy! She is usually much worse than this!" Anyway, I enjoyed my day with my family today and I also enjoyed spending time with my lifelong friend Veronica. It was good to go out to lunch and get away for an hour. Yesterday we also made ghost footprints and they sure did turn out cute!

Oh, and I am hooked on finding crockpot recipes because that thing is wonderful! I can't cook these days, and I am loving the crockpot! Yesterday I threw in a pork roast, onion rings and BBQ sauce and we had sloppy joes...they were so yummy! If you have any yummy crock pot recipes please share!
