quick question...

How old were your kids when they stopped taking a nap? Katelyn tried to stop when Taylor was born, but after a week of leaving her in her room for hours she finally went back to a nap. Now she is 2 yrs and 7 months and won't take a nap again...is it time to give up the nap?

I kept my kids napping until they were 4. Hadley even takes some now occasionally and is 6. They will go through phases of fighting it, but keep it up! Benadryl always works!

She could be. Is she fighting you to go to bed at night too? Does it take her a long time to fall asleep at night, when she has had a nap? Is she waking up earlier in the morning? If yes to any of these, she is probably ready to go off naps. But, just because she doesn't nap, doesn't mean you can't have her have a quiet time for say, and hour every day. Have some quiet toys and books that she can play with in her room, and make her stay there and not bother you until the hour is up. Chloe was the same age Katelyn is now, when she was done with naps. The nice thing was, she started going to bed almost an hour earlier!!!

I ditto Camille's comment. Ashlyn was about 2 and 6 or 7 months and it got to the point where if she took a nap she was up until 10. I cut out the nap and she's down by 8 and can sleep until 8 if Leah doesn't wake her up first. I'd definitely do the quiet time though, cuz even if she's not tired enough to take a nap, she still needs some "down time".
It does vary from kid to kid though. Some kids need a nap until they are 5 or 6. And some kids quit napping at 18 months. (At least that's what I hear from other moms.)

kylie stopped with steady naps about 6 months ago. but i ditto the "quiet time" - she really needs that downtime, and so do i! i try to leave her in for about an hour and a half at the most. and when she really needs it, she usually falls alseep anyways.
