We went to see Horton Hears a Who, and she did ok. She wanted to roam the theater and didn't want anyone to follow her or disturb her. It was more interesting to go up and down the lighted stairs than to watch the movie. The movie was adorable by the way!
So, we get home and I ask her to get out of the car and she throws a fit...I leave her buckled in her seat with the doors closed and take Taylor inside. I come back outside and here is our dialogue:
Me: Katelyn are you done crying?
K: No! Go away! Screams
Me: Ok, let me know when you are done
I stand by the car while she screamed for 5 minutes...why? I have no idea!
She is finally ready to get out of the car and takes 5 steps and then has another meltdown! I pick her up put her in the bathroom and tell her to let me know when she is done and ready to be nice. Long story short, we battled for 45 minutes and she became my possessed child who became another person...no not even a person-I don't know what she was!
Then we have lunch, I take her upstairs for a nap. An hour later I hear her scream! I run up there and open the door to her standing there COVERED in desitin!!!
Me:Katelyn, where's the desitin?
K: Over there on the bed
I look at the bed...OH MY GOSH! The wall is covered, her sheets and bedspread covered, and then I look over at her toy chest-covered! Then she climbed on the chest and decided to paint pretty "clouds" all over the window!!! An ENTIRE large tube of desitin emptied in her room!
WHY ME!? And this all happened before 2!

Oh Jamie, I don't even know what to say. What a rotten day!
Oh my gosh. I can NOT believe that. Aaron, Nicole and I just sat here with our mouths hanging open reading your post. Wow.
Oh my gosh, I can't stop laughing at that pic of Katelyn. Julio keeps asking me what I'm laughing about. Because that face of hers is so classic Katelyn. She's something else that little stinker.
Yes, I made the soup. It was super yummy. I have a recipe that is really similar to it. It's called Chicken Taco Soup. You can try it out if you like.
1 lb. Chicken, cooked and chopped
2 TBSP EVOO (to cook the chicken in)
1 pkg. Taco seasoning mix
1 onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, Minced
1 can chopped green chilis
1 1/2 cup water
1 8oz. can green chili salsa
1 15 oz can black beans (with juice)
1 15 oz can pinto beans (with juice)
1 15 oz can stewed tomatoes
Shredded cheddar cheese to sprinkle on top
Broken corn chips on bottom of bowl
Combine all ingredients, boil and then simmer for 30 minutes.
oh man oh man. with a day that bad, tomorrow is bound to be better, right?
hang in their jamie!
What a day! I am so sorry. I hope she gets better for you.
Jamie, You made my day with this latest blog- someday you'll look back and laugh. Really! The picture reminded me of one I have of Lisi sitting naked in the bathroom sink after she emptied a jar of vaseline on the bathroom mirror and herself, and on her baby brother, who is crawling on the floor proud of all the toilet paper he unraveled. Lisi was such a pill, but grew up into a wonderful young woman and so will our Katelyn. Just keep that camera handy for future memories! The dance, the peepee song- it's all so cute, and Gay and I crack up sharing stories about your blog. Hang in there, Jamie!
I know that it's hard, but I am so glad to hear that I'm not the only one with a child that throws fits for no reason. Friday night was one of those for us. It took an hour and a half to get Maxwell to calm down and go to bed. I actually finally ended up throwing him in a cold shower because he was screaming and hot and sweaty.....That calmed him right down and he finally went to sleep. Children are our biggest joy and BIGGEST frustration. Got to love it! Love you. Call me anytime. You are a wonderful mom, hang in there. When Katelyn grows up she's going to thank you for all you did for her. You are AMAZING!......still one of my hero's:)
I hate using desitin but of course use it when I need to. It's a pet pieve of mine when it gets on my fingers. The smell, the greasiness. I feel so bad for you. I was amazed when I talked to you on the phone and you were laughing about it though. You're a great momma.
I too have a child who has freak outs and "possesed child" episodes. LUCKILY, as Colton gets older the fits become less and less. He used to scream and cry for no reason, for like an hour. I have left him in the car just as you did. My dad had to sit out front of WalMart for an hour one time while Colton cried one time. He finally stopped and said, "Ok, i'm ready to go inside." He also used to yell at me in the morning and tell me to "go away". I felt like EVERYTHING was too much work. But within the last 6 months things are getting better. He stil thinks he is the boss, and I am trying to work on teaching him respect and humility towards me in the decision making process. For instance, today I put my foot down and insisted he wear jeans despite how much he cried! Anyway, good luck :)
I can't stop laughing at the picture of Katelyn. I can't believe she emptied the whole thing of Desitin. With Rylee, 3 was worse than 2, but now that she's turning 4, she's getting better. There are still the meltdowns, but they aren't as bad. Hopefully, she'll grow out of this stage.
What a terrible day! But, that picture of Katelyn is classic and I had to laugh!! Hang in there!
I'm amazed that you had the presence of mind to grab the camera and take a picture instead of strangling her or breaking down in tears! Just do what Mom always did: start yelling out a hymn and ignoring the chaos! It worked for her, right?
