My thoughts

I've been thinking a lot about time lately, and what it means to truly be present in the "Now". Often I find myself a slave to the past or the future and often find myself frustrated, angry or overwhelmed in the present because I am dwelling in the two time periods that don't even exist for me at that moment. I have been reading another amazing book called "A New Earth"-the one Oprah is raving about...and it has made me think...a lot. Here are some excerpts that have been weighing on my mind...

"People believe themselves to be dependent on what happens for their happiness. They don't realize that what happens is the most unstable thing in the universe. It changes constantly. They look upon the present moment as either marred by something that has happened and shouldn't have or as deficient because of something that has not happened that should have. And so they miss the deeper perfection that is inherent in life itself, and is always already here. Accept the present moment and find the perfection that is deeper than any form and untouched by time."

We need to find JOY in just BEING. JOY in the present moment and in our present surroundings. I am striving to do this everyday and it is hard! But when I stay in the present I feel great joy and peace and less frustration and impatience. The greatest gift we can give our children as mothers is to JUST BE PRESENT with them.

I really appreciate what you wrote here. I have been feeling a bit discouraged lately because I might possibly be laid off because of the California budget cuts, and I have been finding it very hard to appreciate my time. I feel like my future is so uncertain because I don't know what will happen, and the past seems spoiled because everything I have been doing seems in a way pointless. But what I learned form your blog is I need to appreciate the present because I have a job now and there is still a lot of good I can do with my kids now. Thanks!

I really have been thinking alot about similar things lately. Really what is true happiness. Living in the now? We need to really think about the things in our life that bring true happiness and Live for today because there might not be a tomorrow. Thanks for your thoughts. Very inspiring. Love you Jaim!

Good thoughts my friend...thanks for sharing. One of my favorite songs is called 'Reaching' and it talks about how we reach for the future or reach for the past-how we are always reaching for more. Just last night I heard a talk where the speaker referenced the hymn, 'Where can I turn for Peace' and especially the line that says He reaches our reaching. That hit me hard. I find the more I focus on Him the more 'present' and happy I am. I like hearing your thoughts...thanks for letting me share mine!
